Direct at WCT

Please review our current director and director apprentice interview and selection process and application.

Deadline to apply for director apprentice is Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 11:59 pm!

Director Selection/Interview Process:

  1. The Vice President will contact the Secretary to determine dates for director selection interviews to include on the application and announcements.
  2. The Vice President will receive (via the online application form) director applications up through the deadline
  3. The Vice President will contact applicant with confirmation of having received application within 24 hours
  4. As applications are received, all applicants’ names will be posted on the WCT website and Facebook page
  5. After the application deadline has passed, the Director Selection Committee will be selected by the Vice President for Board approval. According to the bylaws referenced above, this committee includes individuals on the Play Selection committee, WCT board members and community members with directing experience, all of whom have not applied to direct for the upcoming season.
  6. Once the committee members are approved by the Board, they will be added to a private Facebook group. The committee will meet online or in-person to review applicants.
  7. The committee will make a best-effort to interview all applicants. If any committee member has any severe reservations of interviewing any applicant, those reservations must be submitted in writing, through the Vice President, to the WCT Board of Directors. The majority vote of the Board of Directors solely retains the choice of whether or not to deny any applicant an interview.
  8. The Vice President will contact all applicants (except those denied by the majority vote of the WCT Board) to schedule interviews
  9. The applicants will be interviewed by the Director Selection Committee at their scheduled interview time
  10. The Director Selection Committee will review applicants and make selections based upon:
    • Personal knowledge of applicant’s skill
    • Directing resume
    • Past experience at WCT
    • Interview Responses
  11. The selected Directors shall be approved by majority vote of the WCT Board of Directors. Per the WCT bylaws, this vote may be via electronic mail.
  12. After the interviews have been completed, the Vice President will contact the applicants that have been selected to direct. Experienced directors (must have directed at least 2 shows at WCT) that have been selected and are willing to mentor a director apprentice will be asked to serve on the Director Apprentice Selection Committee. If not selected to be interviewed by the WCT board, applicants are encouraged to apply again for a future season. 11. Directors will be added to a private Facebook group by the Vice President.11. Each director SHALL attend a Director Information Meeting with the Vice President to review the Director’s Information, which includes the WCT Mission Statement, Vision Statement and Values.
  13. Directors that have been matched with a director apprentice will need to meet with their assigned director apprentice prior to the show auditions to discuss and agree on production responsibilities and expectations.

This committee includes selected Directors, individuals on the Director Selection committee, WCT board members and community members with directing experience who have not applied to be a Director Apprentice. Committee members will be added to a private Facebook group. The committee will meet online or in-person to review applicants.
  5. The committee will make a best-effort to interview all applicants. If any committee member has any severe reservations of interviewing any applicant, those reservations must be submitted in writing, through the Vice President, to the WCT Board of Directors.   8. The Director Apprentice Selection Committee will review applicants and select applicants to match with directors based upon:
    • Personal knowledge of applicant’s skill
    • Acting and/or Technical resume
    • Directing resume at other theatres
    • Past experience at WCT
    • Interview Responses
    • Number of Director Apprentice Applicants
    • Availability of experienced directors (must have directed at least 2 shows at WCT) that are willing to mentor a director apprentice.
    • Input from the Directors in the selection of their individual apprentices.
  9. After the interviews and matching with directors has been completed, the Vice President will contact the director apprentices that have been selected.
  10. Director apprentices will be added to a private Facebook group by the Vice President.
  11. Each director apprentice SHALL attend a Director Information Meeting with the Vice President to review the Director’s Information, which includes the WCT Mission Statement, Vision Statement and Values. It is recommended they attend this meeting with their matched director.
  12. Each director apprentice will need to meet with their assigned director prior to the show auditions to discuss and agree on production responsibilities and expectations.
